Kazakhmys PLC operates in the mining industry, through its principal subsidiary, Kazakhmys Corporation LLC. Its major business is the mining and processing of copper ore into cathode copper and copper wire, and the refining and sale of precious metals and other by-products of its copper mining process. It provides other services to various external customers. It has two coal mines located at Borly. Its principal power plant is located at Karaganda and runs on coal from the Borly mines. Its mining activities are focused on extracting copper with zinc, gold and silver being valuable by-products produced in the process.
