(RTTNews) - Mexican airports operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., or OMA (OMAB), Friday said terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 1.4% in June. Domestic traffic rose 0.3% and international traffic improved 8.8%.
The company's total terminal passenger traffic for the month of June advanced 1.4% to 956,888 from 943,584 in the same month of last year. Of total traffic, 96.7% was commercial aviation, and 3.3% was general aviation.
For the month of June, the company's domestic traffic rose 0.3% to 826,004 from 823,312 in the comparable month a year ago. International traffic for the month grew 8.8% to 130,884 from 120,272 in the corresponding month of last year.
The total number of flight operations in the month advanced 16.5% from the prior-year period. Domestic flights rose 15.5%, and international flights rose 25.2%.
The company said that domestic traffic increased at seven airports during the month of June, while traffic at the other six airports decreased. International traffic increased at eight airports, while the company noted that international traffic decreased most in the airports of Torreón and Durango.
During the month of June, VivaAerobus opened the Monterrey-Tampico route and routes from Acapulco and Mazatlán to Guadalajara.
Year-to-date, total terminal passenger traffic declined 1.3% to 5,675,126 from 5,750,680 in the year-ago period. Domestic traffic for the period dropped 2.2% to 4,755,634 from 4,650,772 in the prior year period. Meanwhile, international traffic increased 2.9% to 1,024,354 from 995,046 in the corresponding period of last year.
OMA operates 13 international airports in nine states of central and northern Mexico. OMA's airports serve Monterrey, Mexico's third largest metropolitan area, the tourist destinations of Acapulco, Mazatlán, and Zihuatanejo, and nine other regional centers and border cities.
OMAB closed Thursday's regular trading at $13.28 per share on the Nasdaq.
