(RTTNews) - Around 15 people were killed and at least 20 others were injured when an explosives store blew up at the Liugou coal mine in Linfen city of north China's Shanxi Province. The blast, which occurred Saturday early in the morning, was the second major disaster in China in the week.
Rescue efforts are still going on, and the cause of the blast is under investigation. A senior official of Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co. Ltd, the mine's owner, reportedly said the casualty number could further rise.
The official Xinhua news agency said preliminary findings revealed that the blast may have been caused by explosives illegally stored in a dormitory and that a suspect had been detained by police.
The mine disaster followed Wednesday's chemical pipeline explosion that killed 13 people in eastern China.
