IRVINE, Calif., March 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- According to Gartner, Google's Android OS captured over 50% market share of all smartphone sales worldwide in the 3rd quarter of 2011. By any measurement, this revolutionary platform has been a tremendous success in the enterprise and with the global consumer base.

Streaming a high-quality live event across the increasingly fragmented Android marketplace on OS revisions, such as Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich, requires significant resources and expertise. Adding to the complexity, enterprises and consumers own smartphones and tablet devices from multiple manufacturers who often utilize a custom Android OS variant. Network connectivity, such as 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi, as well as device-specific hardware characteristics, such as CPU, GPU and screen resolution, further serve to fragment the Android OS marketplace. Collectively, these realities significantly reduce the ability of content owners and enterprises to stream a high-quality live event across the broadest possible array of the Android "Device – OS Matrix."

A common approach to broadcasting live streaming media to devices, "adaptive bit rate" or ABR, involves offering multiple variants of the same feed to playback on devices. This mechanism allows for dynamic bitrate selection depending on the immediately available bitrate. ABR focuses on bits, not device characteristics; this excludes coverage of multiple components of the Android Device – OS Matrix and ignores changing network conditions. In addition, more bandwidth is often used than is necessary. The viewer experience can be significantly degraded on certain devices, and picture and audio quality is often not optimally delivered.

After extensive research and development, AllDigital, Inc. believes that it has "cracked the code" for live streaming to this virtual maze of Android devices and configurations, utilizing an intelligent, forward-thinking switching mechanism.

Introducing AllDigital MobileSBR™

MobileSBRutilizes a custom decision matrix at application startup, determining and selecting the optimal stream depending on OS version, hardware profile, display capability and network bitrate. This provides a consistent high-quality experience not limited to a single set of bitrates as per ABR delivery. Additionally, MobileSBR can be tailored to specific content owner or enterprise business rules, enabling intelligent stream switching under given playback and device scenarios.

"Our team struggled tremendously with the current landscape and methodologies related to providing high-quality streaming across the highly fragmented Android community," said Paul Summers, CEO. "After many a late night, we are very proud to share some of our recent discoveries and product innovations with our clients and key prospects."

"At AEG, it's essential that our clients experience the absolute best quality for live events such as concerts, live sports, financial conferences and other large-scale opportunities," said John Petrocelli, Vice President, Sales and Business Development at AEG Digital Media. "We are excited about the prospects for MobileSBR and how that might help increase consumer and enterprise excitement around the Android ecosystem."

MobileSBRstreaming packages start at $500.00 per month. Native application or generic Adobe Air SDKs are available for an additional setup and license fee.
