(RTTNews) - Activity in Australia's manufacturing sector continued to expand in August, but at a slower pace than in July.

The Australian Industry Group/Price WaterhouseCoopers Performance of Manufacturers index declined 2.7 points to a reading of 51.7.

It was the eighth straight month of expansion for the manufacturing sector

Readings above 50.0 indicate expansion of activity in the surveyed sector.

In its report, AIG/PriceWaterhouseCoopers said activity in the construction materials, basic metals and transport equipment benefited from strong activity in the mining, construction and infrastructure fields.

The biggest falls were seen in the food/beverage, and paper/printing/publishing sub sectors.
