Indian auto sector monthly update (December 2009)

- Maruti sold 84804 vehicles in Dec 09 as against 56293 units in Dec 08 a rise of 50.6% YoY basis but a fall of 3.4% on a MoM basis.


- The C segment comprising Omni and Versa showed a robust growth in the domestic market and grew by 51.2% on a YoY basis.


- Though the overall sales of the company showed a decent increase, the MUV segment which comprises Gypsy, Grand Vitara etc, the sales registered a fall of 37.9% during the month compared to sales in Dec 08. However on a MoM basis the sales grew by 2.4%.


- In the A3 category comprising of SX4 and Swift Desire there was a rise of 20.2% in the sales numbers whereas the A2 segment showed a healthy growth of 41.8% on a YoY basis but on a MoM basis the fall was 10.3% and 6.7% respectively.


- Exports were up by 223.7% on a YoY basis at 13804 units in Dec 09 against 4264 units in Dec 08. The company exports were mainly driven by A?] Star and Ritz in Europe.


- The company is planning to increase its production capacity by upto 75% in the next five years. The investment plan for the same will be laid out in January 2010.

 

 

 

- Tata Motors reported sales of 54345 vehicles (including exports) for the month of Dec 09, a growth of 101.9% as compared to 26915 vehicles sold in Dec 08 but on a MoM basis the sales were down by 6.8%.


- A major growth was witnessed in the exports which grew 160.7% on a YoY basis but fell by 13.5% on a MoM basis.


- The M&HCV segment grew by 218.1% on a YoY basis from 4811 units in Dec 08 to 15302 units in Dec 09.


- The sales in the LCV segment has witnessed a growth of 97% on a YoY basis to 18217 units in Dec 09 from 9245 units in Dec 08 as well as on a MoM basis of 7.8% from 16901 units in Nov 09.


- The sales of Utility vehicles grew by 20.8% in the month of Dec 09 to 1710 units from 1416 units in Dec 08.

 

 

 

- Ashok Leyland reported sales of 6099 units in Dec 09 as against 2307 units in Dec 08, a flambuoyant growth of 164.4% on a YoY basis and a growth of 29.9% on a MoM basis.


- An all round growth was witnessed in the domestic sales across all the segments which were up by 293.7% on a YoY basis. However the exports witnessed a fall of 37.5% on a YoY basis against a growth of 22.9% on a MoM basis.

 

 

 

- Mahindra & Mahindra reported total sales of 36440 units in Dec 09 as against 18169 units in the corresponding month last year, a growth of 100.6% YoY basis and 3.6% growth on a MoM basis.


- All the segments showed a growth on a YoY basis however on a MoM basis the growth has been witnessed only in the Uvs and Logan segments.


- Exports for the month of Dec 09 stood at 2169 units as against 1058 units in Dec 08, a robust growth of 105% on a YoY basis.


- The Farm Equipment sales showed a growth 67.9% on a YoY basis and a marginal fall of 0.7% on a MoM basis.

 

 

 

 

Bajaj Auto


- Bajaj Auto?fs two wheeler sales grew by 84.9% at 220429 units in Dec 09 as against 119215 units in Dec 08 and on a MoM basis it was down by 9.2 % at 242648 units in Nov 09.


- The three?]wheeler segment registered a growth of 37.6% on a YoY basis and a fall of 7.4% on a MoM basis.

 

 

TVS


- TVS reported sales of 119701 in Dec 09 as against 89285 units in the corresponding month last year which shows a growth of 34.1%.


- Its motor cycle segment sales increased by 23.7% and 2 wheelers sales figures showed an increase of 63.8%. The exports grew from 16930 units to 17222 units up 1.7% on a YoY basis.

 

 

Hero Honda


- Hero Honda?fs motorcycle sales were up by 4.4% on a YoY basis at 375838 units in Dec 09 and on a MoM basis fell by 1.5% from 381378 units in Nov 08.
