Default Further Development for Yahoo

In an update to the Yahoo problems, it was announced today that an advertising deal with Google won't go through. The deal had faced anti-trust objections, and its loss will cost $800 million a year for Yahoo. Stock has yet to take a tumble however, though I expect it will do.

Is this as it is being touted, another nail in Yahoo's coffin?

Default Shouldn't cost them anything

The fact that a deal won't go through shouldn't actually cost Yahoo anything - there wasn't anything in place for them to lose. I do believe that they are in trouble and if they don't do something soon, they will be too far behind to ever catch up.

Yahoo needs to accept that there is one search engine king and that is google. They have to act as a second place search engine and try to move up to take some google market share. If they continue to dream like they were #1, they will continue to make the same kind of mistakes already done.

Default I disagree

Any company who just sits back and is content with being #2 is going to be left by the wayside. What they need to do is stop competing in the same arena as Google - they need to come up with something new to offer the market.

I feel Yahoo provides more than just a search engine compared to Google. Yahoo is an excellent source for news, and is my main news source. If they could continue to expand on News and such, I am sure they would win the market.

Now see, I am the opposite and get almost all of my news through Google. It is true that Yahoo does have other features but unfortunately, none of them are at the forefront. Second rate will end up leaving them behind unless they come up with something unique.

I'm not sure that they can fight Google, and to continue to do so will continue to leave them number two. Instead they need to diversify and branch out-find something that doesn't already have a horribly strong player.

That was exactly what I was trying to say in my post above. Yahoo needs to stop competing with Google and take a completely new direction or they will be buried in the end.

I didn't even know Google had news, but in my opinion, Yahoo has so much they could build upon. Yahoo Instant Messenger, Yahoo Games, etc. The news is still something I think they are good at and could build upon also.

Unfortunately Cramer, others do messengers, they do games, they do the other things that Yahoo does. They need to find something new, simple as.
