Indian stock market daily closing report (February 12, 2013)

Indian markets ended up today on account of short covering & buying interest in some of index heavy weights. But the broader markets remain subdued as the overall macroeconomic condition remains negative.

Industrial output (IIP) contracted to 0.6% in December on account of poor performance of manufacturing and mining sectors and decline in production of capital & consumer goods. The industrial output had grown by 2.7% in December, 2011. The index of industrial production increased only by 0.7% YoY in first three quarters of current financial year.

The Consumer price index (CPI) for the month of January maintained the double digit growth. The January CPI increased by 10.78% YoY. The December CPI was 10.56%.

The breadth of the market was negative in today’s trade.
