Indian stock market daily morning report (October 04, 2012, Thursday)

Views on markets today

- The BSE Sensex closed the session at 18,869.69, up 45.78 points or 0.24% and Nifty 50 ended at 5,731.25, up 14.5 points or 0.22% extending the rally for the third consecutive day. Oil and gas, PSU and health care stocks were the best performers.

- The BSE Sensex gainers were Hindustan Unilever, up 2.37%; Coal India, up 1.98%; and TCS, up 1.46%.

- The main losers were Jindal Steel, down 4.58%; Hero MotoCorp, down 1.66%; Bajaj Auto, down 1.56%

- Among the 13 sectoral indices, six sectors closed in negative, while remaining seven sectors closed in positive. Top Gainers: BSE Oil&Gas up by 0.99%, BSE PSU gained by 0.63%, BSE HC surged by 0.55%. Top Losers: BSE Auto down by 0.36% and BSE CD down by 0.22%.

- Market breadth was positive at ~1.50x as investors bought large cap stocks. On provisional basis, FII bought equity of '6.02bn and domestic institutions sold equity of '6.68bn in cash segment.

- Asian markets are up today following the cues from the US and Europe markets on improving sentiments of the investors.

- We expect a cautiously positive opening for the Indian markets ahead of crucial cabinet meeting on FDI in insurance and pension sectors.
