US stock market daily report (May 25, 2010, Tuesday)
By Millennium Traders
Dow Jones Index fell almost 300 points this afternoon, as investors are growing more concerned over the falling euro. Dow Jones fell below the physiological 10,000 level this morning losing almost 300 points. In the afternoon stocks were able to regain some of the earlier losses, the Dow was down by 120 points with an hour left in the session. Besides investors still being worried about the problems overseas they are now focusing some attention towards the tensions between North and South Korea. After South Korea announced penalties against North Korea for supposedly torpedoing a Southern patrol ship in late March, North Korea announced a returned threat to the country. They went on to say their military be patrolling and ready to defend their western sea boarder. Over the past week, since May 14th, North Korea has seen dozens of South Korea's warships in the yellow sea. Over the past couple of weeks there hasn't really been any great news to help push stocks higher, the European debt crisis is the topic investors are paying close attention to. Investors also credit the recent Dow sell off to market correction; from the low in March 2009 lows and the highs stocks reached in April, the Dow rose 71%. A technical market correction is a decline by over 10%; the Dow is currently down 10.2% off of the high in late April. At the end of the trading session stocks rallied; with just under a half hour left, the Dow managed to recuperate all of its previous losses to be negative 41 points. Commodity prices fell; gold rose $4.00 to $1,197.80 an ounce and crude oil fell $1.46 to $68.75 per barrel.
